Next steps:
- Upon payment, we will immediately file the Nigerian trademark application.
- We will send you an application number and filing receipt within two business days, and you can track the status of the application online.
- The Nigerian trademark examiner may issue an examination report within 3 months of filing. You may instruct our agent to respond to the examination report (cost: from US$70).
- If the trademark application is accepted, we will arrange publication in the Nigerian Trademark Journal. We will notify you of the acceptance and subsequent publication. Nigerian trademarks are typically published 12-15 months of filing and lie open to opposition for 2 months.
- If the trademark application is opposed, we will notify you of the opposition by email and you will be able directly to engage the Nigerian trademark attorney who we appointed to file the application. Alternatively, you could engage any other Nigerian trademark attorney to deal with the opposition.
- If acceptance of the trademark application is not opposed by a third party following publication, or if the opposition is resolved favourably, we must pay the registration fee in order for the trademark to be granted. We will notify you of the deadline to instruct us to pay the registration fee, which you can instruct via your portfolio (cost: $110).
- Once the registration fee has been paid, the certificate of grant will be issued by the Nigerian Trademark Office. We typically receive the trademark registration certificate within 2 years of filing. An electronic copy of the registration certificate will be emailed to you without charge, and you can (optionally) request the document to be couriered to you (cost: $110).
Note: Filing and official fees are included in our filing fee. Downstream costs: Replying to examination report (if any) (from $70); Publication and payment of the registration fee ($70); Courier ($110, optional); and Renewals.
